| He attended Duke University, Wilson Teachers College, and then graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor of science degree in zoology. Gloria and Art reconnected when he came back to California to attend USC and they were married in August 1949. Art then worked as a chemist at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He was later accepted to the medical school at The College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons and graduated as a doctor of osteopathy, performing his residency in Long Beach, Calif. at the Long Beach Osteopathic Hospital. He began practicing family medicine in Norwalk, Calif. They settled in Downey, Calif. and raised two children, Todd Barbour, 54 of San Diego, Calif. and Tani Barbour, 51 of Vista, Calif. Gloria died in May 1978. He then met and married his loving second wife, Barbara (Bobbie), with whom he moved to the Boothbay region upon his retirement in 1988, where they lived in bliss until she died due to cancer in late January 2006.
