Flounder are also being caught at the nearshore reefs. Large pompano are being caught in the surf. Cobia are being caught off Masonboro inlet, while good sized Spanish mackerel are being caught off Carolina Beach inlet. Lots of mahi are being caught, starting in 120 feet of water but are thicker along the break. Cobia fishing has been really good from the beach out to 30 miles. Bottom fish in 130150 feet of water has been awesome for red, gag and scamp grouper, hogfish, triggerfish, beeliners and jolthead porgies.
